Kano Concludes Arrangements for Multi-billion-naira BRT Project

The Kano State Government has concluded arrangement for a multi- billion-naira Bus Rapid programme(BRT) in the state. The move was in furtherance of effort to ensure urban regeneration and sustainable transportation.
 
According to the state’s Director General, Media and Publicity, Ameen K. Yassar, the initiative, which is the first of its kind in the state, is a “tip of the iceberg infrastructural project” as the Ganduje administration commences its second term in office on May 29.
 
BRT is a high quality bus – based public transport system designed to deliver fast, comfortable and cost effective services at metro – level capacities. It does this through the provision of exclusive lanes with busways and distinctive stations typically aligned to the centre of the road, off – board fare collection and fast, regular operations…

Nigeria imports $600m pottery products annually

Nigeria imports pottery products worth $600m annually, the Federal Government has said. The Coordinator, Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification, Mr Linus Adie, disclosed this on Saturday while conducting World Bank Task Team Leader, Nura Arfaa, round the dilapidated Ladi Kwali Pottery Centre, Suleja, Niger State.
 
Adie said that despite the great path that Nigeria had established in the pottery industry and the abundance of ceramic raw materials, the country imported more than 80 per cent of its pottery needs…

Nigeria Revives Plan to Double Oil Output, Triple Refining

Nigeria plans to almost double oil production and triple its refining capacity within six years, reviving previous pledges that turned out to be too ambitious.
 
The OPEC member is looking to pump 4 million barrels a day by 2025 and increase refining capacity to 1.5 million barrels daily, Maikanti Baru, managing director of state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corp., said at a conference Thursday in the capital, Abuja. “Nigeria needs to unlock new barrels as quickly as possible,” he said…

Following the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently, Nigeria and Dubai have agreed to deepen their cooperation, especially as it concerns trade in gold.

Bitumen leads import chart

 THERE are indications that the construction industry may be experiencing a boom as Bitumen, for the first time, is leading the nation’s import chart. But the leadership of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, is saying that the issue is excessive reliance on bitumen in the construction industry, calling for a switch to cement.

Chinese coy to establish fibre board plant in FCT

Sinoria FABCOM, a Chinese building materials and structural engineering company, has announced plans to open a fibre cement board manufacturing factory in Abuja.

Nigeria-based Value Seeds came top in a new research on seed companies operating in Western and Central Africa, a new study by the Amsterdam-based Access to Seeds Foundation says.
 
According to the study, Value Seeds, like most of the other companies from the region, operates exclusively in its home country of Nigeria and stands out for its maize and rice ‘value kits’, all-in-one input packages tailored for smallholders. The company also provides capacity building activities that specifically target women and next-generation farmers, the study adds…

Nigerian telcos to invest $8.5bn to bridge network gap

Nigerian mobile network operators are planning to invest $8.5bn in the next two years to bridge telecommunication infrastructure gap in the country.
 
The latest report by Global System for Mobile communication Association said this represented an increase of $1.6bn over the past two years.

Olam Offers to Buy Nigeria's Dangote Flour Amid Focus Shift

Olam International Ltd. made a cash bid to buy Dangote Flour Mills Plc of Nigeria as the Singapore-based agriculture trader looks to expand in West Africa as part of a rejig of its portfolio.
 
Olam will offer 130 billion naira ($362 million) for Lagos-based DFM, which is part of the business empire of Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man. The Nigerian leather industry generates between $600m to $800m through export annually, a report by  JCR-VIS Credit Rating Company Limited.
