Nigeria’s solar industry growing, says US-based firm

A United States-based solar product design and marketing company, SolAps, has said the Nigerian solar power industry is growing and it is aiming to reach 20 million Nigerians with its products.
 
Its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Omololu Noibi, said the company was founded in 2009 with the goal of accelerating the adoption of solar renewable energy around the world, by introducing solar-based applications, with the aid of available technologies.
 
Noibi, who spoke at a press briefing in Lagos, said the company had created a mobile app that connects users to solar mobile chargers…

India, Nigerian firm partner to boost retail textile sector

Leoht Africa has partnered with the Indian Chamber of Commerce to boost the retail sector of Nigeria’s textile industry and position it as a leading hub in the Central and West African market.

How Nigeria Exported Over $242m Worth Airplanes To Ghana In 2021

Despite not being a manufacturing hub for production or assemblage of vehicles or aircraft, Nigeria has raked in $242 million (N100.65bn) from the export of airplanes/helicopters to Ghana, analysis of Foreign Trade in Goods Statistics reports by Daily Trust has shown.
 
The report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), stated that Nigeria has in the three quarters of 2021 exported helicopters to Ghana with the commodity increasing the amount of money made in the manufacturing sector.
 
A breakdown revealed that in the first quarter, N71.1bn was realised, with N16.65bn made in the second quarter and N12.9bn in the third quarter…

Nigeria’s imports from China gulp $51bn in five years

Nigeria imported goods worth $51bn (N21.1tn) in five years from China, the country’s top import trading partner.
 
The country’s imports from China were more than what it bought from the United States and the Netherlands combined in the period under review.

FG to partner China on renewable energy technology

The Federal Government has said it plans to partner with the People’s Republic of China in developing a renewable energy research centre that will boost renewable energy technology in some Nigerian universities.
 
This was disclosed in a statement by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation on Friday.
 
“The proposed partnership between the Chinese and Nigerian universities is expected to build and upgrade centres of excellence in renewable energy technologies which include green energy – solar, wind, hydro, bio-energy, energy efficiency and management,” it said…

Nigeria imports $35m solid minerals in nine months

Nigeria imported solid minerals worth $35m (N143.1bn) from January to September this year, according to data collated from the National Bureau of Statistics.
 
The NBS data also show that the country exported N42.5bn solid minerals in the nine-month period, less than 30 per cent of what it imported.
 
It said, “The total value of trade in solid mineral goods in Q1 2021 stood at N49.5bn. The export component of this trade stood at N9.3bn while the import was valued at N40.2bn…

IITA, Australia to collaborate on wheat production

The Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, John Donnelly, says his country is willing to collaborate with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture to explore wheat production.
 
A statement quoted Donnelly as saying that the Australian Commission was proposing collaboration on wheat production if IITA, through agricultural cooperation, was willing to add wheat to its mandate crops.
