The maritime transportation industry is contributing about $18.4bn (N7tn) to the national economy annually, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council has said. According to the council, the sector, however, must be supported by the Central Bank of Nigeria to enable it to deliver more to the country economically.
The Executive Secretary, NSC, Hassan Bello, who disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, also said the Federal Ministry of Transportation was working to connect the new Lekki port in Lagos by rail.
